"Hello, we're Sally Hordern
and Claire Hariades and for the past 4 years or so we - helped
by a bunch of friends and supporters - have been patiently
building up a new kind of community shop in Exbourne, Devon.
We started because our last real shop - the Post Office -
had disappeared, even though there was still a big demand.
"At the moment our base is
the Village Hall where we sell local
produce from farms and gardens, plus we have a cafe
and we offer some Post Office services too. In April 2006,
after many frustrations, we received planning permission to
build our real shop. And what a unique place it will be because
the whole thing will be UNDERGROUND!
"We have been promised sufficient
funding to get us off the ground (er, pardon the pun) but
we still need to raise £25,000 ourselves to make the
project viable. We are already well on the way. As well as
being a 'front' for the current shop, this site explains more
about The Underground Shop project and how it will operate.
It will also tell the story of the trials and tribulations
- plus the successes! - that await us in coming months. Visit
often to watch our progress."
